About SandyB
Reinventing sandyb is a story about getting unstuck.
The quick and dirty version…
These are short stories and anecdotes about the last year of my 20s and how I go about checking everything off of my “Before I Turn 30 List”, which expires this year on my birthday, August 21, the same day, every year, that I make a new list of things to accomplish; it’s also the day I put on my wedding dress (see my header, yep, that’s the dress). Why? Simple: wedding dresses are for birthdays. And you should always wear what you want on your birthday. But that’s not what this blog is about.
This is not a “motivational” “inspirational” or “uplifting” blog, necessarily, although you may feel any of those things after stopping by, and that’s wonderful; thank you and you’re welcome. This is more of a “documentational” blog (even though documentational is not a real word), which means things can get interesting around here.
(Note: It’s difficult enough to write an “About” page on a good day. It’s even more difficult when you’re having somewhat of an identity crisis. Just try it.)
The “About” version with more detail…
I am a self-confessed hipster-urbanite, renting in the neighborhood I don’t quite have enough scratch to afford, but last year I sold my loft to move here anyway. I’m an editor at a magazine I’ve loved since I was a teenager. I teach yoga, am married to a musician who adores me, have a cat I spoil and a sister who is the best present my parents ever gifted me. Things seem pretty in order, wouldn’t you say?
But in 2009 something occurred to me: I’m turning 30 and not quite sure what that means, yet. This is a time of transition and there are days I feel like I’m in that gray area (like sludge) between 20something and 30ish, when people “my age” should know more about who they want to be and care less about who they did not become. I don’t believe that, but I’ve never been here before either. Although I figure I’m not the only one standing in this spot, facing this dilemma that feels a lot like a hang nail, which is weird.
This blog isn’t just for women turning 30, wedding dress wearers, lovers of sarcasm, yogis, writers, editors or people who appreciate swearing (like I do). This blog is for anyone who has ever said aloud, “What am I supposed to do with my life?” because that’s what I do, everyday. The answers I come up with end up here and every experience I have, inevitably, leads to the reinvention of sandyb.
I blog it all, and bet you’ll relate.
Something for everyone…
For you Type-A people: Sometimes I offer advice on breaking into the market as a writer/editor; sometimes I offer thoughts on how to improve your yoga practice or daily fitness, because I also work as an instructor and writer of both; and sometimes I even post a recipe or two. So yes, this blog has many “take aways” and can be very “service oriented” because, after all, it’s all about you, Type-A, isn’t it?
For you liberal hipster-types: I’m a free-spirit by nature, trapped in a world of luxury and urbanization, although I try not to complain much, since it’s bad for my chi and Third Eye. I’m not shy to talk about my past because I’m one of those quasi-hippies (in high heels) who believes a good grasp of your roots will help nurture your future. I eat tofu and quinoa [at trendy restaurants]. I love cooking [while sipping a full-bodied, vintage red]. And I teach yoga and strongly believe that yes, 4/20 is something to celebrate. No judgment.

Thoroughly enjoy your blog…it’s almost like my daily coffee ;)
I can’t find anyway to contact you on our blog except this ‘leave-a-comment’ section. And maybe that’s the point :)
Anyways, would you care to share your email?
Oh yes, of course! It’s along the right side of the blog (I think?) but here it is anyway: originalsandyb {at} gmail {dot} com… drop me a line anytime and thank you for the wonderful compliment!
Just came across your blog today and I think it’s awesome! When I was in my late 20’s, I realized that I kept joking about “what I wanted to be when I grew up” and when I actually stopped and listened to myself, I realized it wasn’t a joke – I really had no clue what I was doing with my life! So, I’m working on my life list too :) can’t wait to follow along with yours!
Thank you so much, for stopping in and for the wonderful comment. Same thing happened to me! …I woke up one day and thought, ‘Girl, get a move on!” And then this blog was born.
Hey I just found my way onto your blog, and I really like what you’re talking about. I am 28, and pretty much always ask myself what I am doing with my life. It can become a stressful question, so it’s great to read along with your thoughts on the turning 30 matter.
Glad I found this!
Wedding dresses are also for random breakfasting, Sundays, and walks on the beach.
