Emails gone blog.

by sandyb on March 7, 2010

Dear lovely, wonderful folks who kindly stop into read this little ‘ol blog every day (or while you’re procrastinating at work), this week I emailed my friends (actual verbiage below, typos and all) and now, I send it to you, my virtual friends. Email me or drop a comment with your replies – you’ll see what I mean.

I really would love to get to know you all a little better, beyond your blogs and comments. If you like this idea, then pass it on. A good idea is only great once shared.

***

Dear friends,

Word up.

So that you know, I’m emailing everyone I’ve been thinking of recently, for one reason or another. You’ve crossed my mind. I’ve recently seen you or we haven’t talked in a while. And before you think, ‘what’s wrong with this chick?’ I’ll assure you that nothing is wrong. I just wanted to reconnect.

Now it’s your turn.

Shoot me back an email and tell me one to three things going on with you. Tell me the best, biggest things that you can’t stop talking about. Or maybe you’ve just been dying to tell someone this one thing – either way, here’s your chance to spill your guts. This will take you FIVE MINUTES but keep a smile on my face all week.

Here’s a snapshot of what’s going down with me (hey, only fair to dish my dirt, too, right?)

1. Yoga in Motion. This is the charity yogathon I co-founded in 2007 to help raise $$ for breast cancer. My mom, a survivor, was my inspiration. On my donation page is a story about why I co-founded the charity — I believe knowing the root of people’s actions and passions is important, which is why I posted it there. If you can pitch in a few bucks to support the charity, great, I’d love that and thank you. If not, I’d love it even more if you’d join my team and yogathon with me…? No experience required.

You can find my personal donation page and story here.

2. My blog: this is quite possibly one of the biggest projects in my life this year. If you haven’t read my little ‘ol blog, I invite you to. I’m documenting my last year before 30. It’s a milestone year, so they say, which is why I decided to chronicle my life as I cross everything off of my Birthday List. I’ve made a list like this since I was a teenager, but this is the first time I’ve ever really talked about it. My Birthday List has brought me everything I’ve ever wanted. I kid you not.

Since I started the blog, I’ve received emails from strangers who have started their own Birthday Lists. I can’t tell you what this connection with virtual strangers has done for me. Inspiration is the greatest medicine, especially when someone loves your dose.

You can see my blog here.

3. On the lighter side of things, I don’t have my first grey hair yet, but am checking every day. Seriously. Ask Rob. Early grey runs in my family and I’m keeping a hawk eye on it, like brown on rice, baby.

Ok, I dished my three, now you dish yours.

Thinking of you,
sandy

Great idea! And thanks again for sharing so much of yourself with your reading public, makes us feel like we have a kinship with you. I’m sending you an email answering your post (as not to ramble on too long in the comment section).

Hi Sandy,

I am new to your blog, but already a big fan :) Here’s what’s new with me.

1) I recently started writing for a new website: http://www.lifeasahuman.com. It features around 30 writers blogging about all sorts of things. I’m really excited to be part of this!

2) I started a pilates class, and am being introduced to all sorts of muscles I didn’t know I had. Hi, body, nice to meet you!

3) I’m learning to draw, which started out scary and quickly turned into so much fun. No more badly formed stick people for me.

Hi Sandy – I think this is a really nice idea! Every once in a while I think I should be better with keeping in touch with friends, etc, esp those that are far away and this is a fun way to reconnect. I’m going to forward this onto a bunch of people once I’m done posting here :) First of all though, my three are:
1. The biggest thing on my mind right now is probably my move to Vancouver – just doing a lot of research into neighbourhoods, things I want to do and see, jobs, volunteer opportunities and groups I can join to make new friends, what I want to sell, etc etc etc. Not really putting anything into motion yet as I’m not going for another 5 mths or so, but gearing up!
2. A few coworkers and I got together and made a team for the NS SPCA Alley Cat Bowl, taking place April 10th, so I’m trying to fundraise for that right now. Animal causes are really close to my heart so I’m always happy to help the SPCA and similar groups when I can. Plus it will be lots of fun!
3. The struggle with eating right and exercise continues, especially with all this Easter candy now around!! But I’m really trying to stick with going to the gym a couple of times a week and doing yoga once (we have a girl that comes to our office and does a class each week, which is SO cool). I’m also planning on picking up a bunch of books on vegetarianism to continue my exploration of this lifestyle, with the eventual goal of becoming a fully veggy. Hoping this will help me lose some weight and get more fit before the summer comes!

Thank you for this! Wow, I’m loving the comments (and emails!). I’ve always wanted to visit BC, but still haven’t gotten around to it. I really admire that you’re making such a big move like that.

As for the Easter candy… I’ve eaten DOZENS of Cadbury Cream Eggs. I’m a mere shell of my former self now.

1. I graduate with my Bachelors next month! It’s been a long time coming, as I took a couple years off in the middle to work full time. I’m excited but also worried that I won’t be able to find a good job.

2. Our house is up for sale. We really want to get out of this part of town. (It was my husband’s house before I met him.) But it’s been up for a little over 3 weeks now and not one person has looked at it. It’s a little disheartening.

3. Our first anniversary is in August, so we are thinking about going on a trip to celebrate. We were just going to do something small, since we were planning on buying a house, but if we can’t sell our house, I’d like to do a bigger trip.

Congratulations on the upcoming BA!
As for the job find, my suggestion (if I may) is to bask in the accomplishment for two weeks – full vacay from “thinking” – then put your energy into finding a job. Think about what you really want to say on your resume and seek out the job that fits that description.

As for the house selling, wow, Toronto’s real estate market is on fire! (which is a bad thing for a buyer, like me). We’re talking bidding wars and houses being scooped up like hot cakes. Hot cakes, I tell you!

Enjoy your anniversary, by the way… Paper anniversary, is it?

Sandy,

1. I started blogging a few months ago and I really love it… yours is one of my favorites!

2. I finally graduate this year and will start grad school in the fall!! Woo hooo!

3. I actually do cardio work-out 5 times a week now…usually my workout plans are a fail but this time around it’s been amazing!

=D
