Thank you, everyone, for your wonderful and supportive comments! It really does mean so much when you all take the time to pop into my neck of the woods.

Oh Sandy! This is so heartbreaking and beautiful! That feeling of being just a little too late I understand very well. She knew it was coming, but death always feels like a surprise. I am so happy you are sharing your writing with us! This story especially. Please keep doing it.

That's awesome! So touching I almost cried (seriously, and I'm not a crier, though i should mention I've been on a "cleanse" and haven't eaten much in two days, so sort of emo). I liked the way the story was so real and so personal without being overly emotional and too deep. The reader knew what was happening and felt the same feelings without feeling bogged down, does that make sense? Hope so...

Just beautiful Sandy. It's whimsical yet touching and written in a beautiful flow. Loved it.
I could smell the oranges from here.
I think you're going to rock this class.

Wow!!

The idea reminds me of a Ray Bradbury story, but the 400 word limit (and the time limit) has forced you to concentrate on the story in a way that Bradbury didn't.

I really enjoyed your story! It's so winsome and sweet. I'm interested to know how it relates to your family, when it happened. Well done!
