It’s funny that you wrote about this because I’ve been having some real similar thoughts. I feel like I started blogging for one reason and had a direction…and, it keeps changing. Also, the audience I hope to be writing for has changed. I’ve not even been blogging long at all.

I guess when you boil it down…everyone blogs to share. It’s about sharing our experience.

I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed reading about you and your experiences. And, I’ve learned along the way.

I blog partly as a form of cathartic healing and partly to share with others. However my main reason is memory. My long-term memory has already started to fade and as I’ve never kept a written diary, this means many moments from my childhood and teens have been lost to me forever. By keeping a blog, hopefully I will have something to look back on in later years.

I blog for two second reasons. A place to park my thoughts, observations, and reflections. And two, hopefully connect and make friends with some people I otherwise wouldn’t find offline.

I’ve been blogging on and off for seven years. And one of the things I’ve found that works best is if I blog for me first, and hopefully people who understand and/or can relate will come along with that.

And, I’m definitely in agreement with your last sentence.

I still haven’t worked out what my blog is about. Plus if I tell people I think they’re less, rather than more, likely to go off and read it. Working out what your blog is about is a bit like working out what you want to do when you grow up – the less cut and dried it is, the more likely you are to be interesting to somebody.
